A CALL TO PRAYER.
Sunday, September Bth, has been set aside by Royal Prerogative as a day for National Prayer. His Majesty the King has requested that his subjects in all parts of the world join him in prayer to God for the delivery of this nation from war. In this desire to contact the Divinity as a means to salvation from chaos and hopelessness the «/ill of George VI is shared by the people of America and for the first time in history the two great English-speaking nations will unite their thoughts in an ardent plea for the restoration of "peace and goodwill among men." In our own town and district special services will be held in all churches for the common desire of all denominations is the 1 termination of the horrible strife which threatens to engulf the world. Sunday next is to be regarded, from a religious point of view as equally important as the other great festal events on the Christian ealander and the people of Whakatane can be relied upon to observe it with all the necessary humility and sincerity.
