BAY GOES DOWN TO AUCKLAND IN HARD GAME REUBE'S TWO TRIE'S The Bay of Plenty representative team made the Auckland combination go all out to secure a 19-8 victory at Eden Park on Saturday. The game was more closely contested than had 'generally been anticipated and the Bay fifteen though compelled to defend for the greater part of the initial spell, carried several well executed raids into Auckland territory, and hung tenaciously on to a three point lead until just on half-time, when an infringement allowed Hare, the Auckland fullback, to equalise the score. Auckland put on eight points within- as many minutes upon resumption andl added further to its tally as the game progressed. Bay of Plenty decreased the margin as? the result of another good try by Reube and which was converted by Delamere, but gallant efforts failed to lessen the gap. Though the Bay was defeated, it was responsible for a game performance against the crack Auckland team and showed that the players could rise to the heights in the face of what appeared to be great odds. For Auckland tries were scored by Barry, Hull and Gilmour, Hare converting two and kicking two penalty goals. Reube scored both Bay of Plenty tries, Delamere converting one. WHAKATANE STAR SENIORS WIN 11-iG OVER TE AWAMUTU The Whakatane Star senior team journeyed to Te Awamutu on Saturday to meet that team in a return match. A splendid game resulted, the Star coming out on top by jll points to 6. Tries'were scored by Thompson (2),, Courtney, one conversion being registered by Oswald. Kerry scored two tries for the home team. JUNIOR'S CHALLENGE FAILS SOUNDLY TROUNCED BY ROTORUA The Whakatane Star junior team, challenging for the Mcintosh Shield, were soundly trounced by Kaikura (Rotorua) at Rotorua. The final score was 19-0.
