HEALTH CAMPS
RAISING FUNDS FOR, CHILDREN'S BENEFIT STAMPS WILL NOT BE SOLD THIS YEAR According to advicc received by Mr L. G. Wood, postmaster at Whakatane, 'Health' stamps will not be on sale this year and it is understood that the reason is the precedence of other appeals. A neAA' method of obtaining the funds necessary for the maintenance of the 'health camps' is outlined in a letter received by the postmaster from the honorary secretary of the Auckland Central Council of the National Health Camp organisation. The letter reads:— "We are now launching" our campaign to raise funds towards maintaining children in a Health Camp. This season we are desirous of in-, eluding in one of the camps some children from your area. "In order to obtain finance we.arc organising a 'sale of work* in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on October 24th and 25th. We have six articles for raffling and your assistance in the disposal of tickets would be appreciated'. Every £1 raised at this 'fair' carries with it a subsidy of £2 from Art Union funds" Local Arrangements. Residents are advised that these tickets, for the raffles stated, are obtainable from the 'Gift Shop,' opposite the ,Roclc. . Regarding the intimation that children from this district would be eligible for entry into the camps this year, it is stressed /hat in all cases preference will be given to the ■children,of soldiers on active service.
