WASTE METAL COLLECTION.

Everybody realises andr endorses the wiisdom of conserving waste metal as part of the Dominion's war effort. The recent broadcasts by the Hon. D. G- Sullivan found warm response in the hearts of all who desired to assist in this respect and thousands of householders made a mental note of various articles of scrap metal which could be spared or made available. But the part that is worrying the majority of these well intentioned persons is that the whole appeal -seems to be left in the air. No practical method of collection has been offered and no appointment of responsible controlling groups for the allocation of depots. In short a,ll the essentials seem to be; missing and the only tangible aspect is the appeal itself. In Whakatane dozens have been enquiring as to the above methods of contribution. They are keen to co-operate, and in many iinstances have supplies of metal on hand, but there appears to be no constructive system providing the vital channels of supply and to all intents and purposes it would appear that the individual householder is expected to clutter up his backyard with old tins, discarded cooking utensils, metal working tools and the like until such time as the official brain has evolved a process of collection and conqentration.
