'SPITFIRE' FUND
REQUEST TO BEACON SUBSCRIPTION LIST OPENED In response to numerous requests from businessmen whd feel that they would like to be linked with the magnificent defence of the Old Country by the) Royal Air Force, the BEACON is honoured to commence a subscription list in its columns for the purpose of subscribing to the! purchase of fighter planes for the Imperial Government. The effort made last week to interest the suppliers to the Rangitaiki Dairy Company in a movement lo donate £5000 for the purchase of a special 'Spitfire' or "Hurricanc' fighter craft is one worthy of emulation by the whole district but finality cannot be expected until such, time as the project has been investigated by the directors as instructed. In the meanwhile the Beacon list will proceed and we will be glad to acknowledge all donations received from time to time, and to ensure that the final, figure will be handed to the authorities in charge of the Dominion fund unless later district developments dictate other wise.
