ACCIDENT SEQUEL
INTOXICATION CHARGE AGAINST MAORI FARMER „ REMAND GRANTED As a sequel to the collision in 'Commerce Street on Saturday evening, Tairiati Mahanga Kaiwhata, 38, farmer, of Paroa, was , brought before Messrs G. A. Brabant and R. W. Schofield, J.P.'s, in "the Police Court on Monday morning to answer a count of being in a : state of intoxication while in charga of a car. Entering a plea of not guilty, Mr -Smith asked for a remand, Kaiwhata "to appear in the Magistrate's Court -on September 10th.' This application was opposed by Sergeant FarTell, whq requested a remand until "Wednesday (to-day). The Bench asked counsel if that would suit but Mr Smith submitted that the charge was of a serious nature and he "would prefer to have it dealt with "in the Magistrate's Court. The main ■question, he said, was the degree of intoxication. Sergeant Farrell agreeing, Kaiw&s remanded! to appear before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., on 'September 10th, - bail being allowed in one surety of £20.
