j PAKURANGA HUNT RACING AT ELLERSLIE Excellent acceptances have been received for the Pakuranga Hunt meeting at Ellerslie to-morrow. The Sylvia Park Handicap will have to be divided, but it will only be treated as one" race. The stakes will be increased to £300, £100 to the winner of cach division, £35 to the second and £15 to the thirdThe acceptances are: — GREENMOUNT HUNTERS' STEEP LECHASE of £200. About two miles and a half, Etcetera 9.5; Cockalarum, Searcher, Leighton, Buzzard, Silver Wattle, Domination Beverley, Big Bill, British Lass 9.0. It is somewhat unusual to see a top Aveiglit with only 9.5 on a 9.0 minimum. Etcetera appears to have a mortgage on this event and should win if he stands up. Populuar fancies may include Etcetera Cockalarum Beverley HARRIS MEMORIAL HACK ANT) HUNTERS' HURDLES of £200. One mile and three-quarters. Midland 10.7; Little Ruse, Tutor 9.11; Tavern Song,, Valspear, Benighted 9.5; Bright Idea, Vaalso Dark Rose 9.2; Beeswing, The Trim mcr, Tane Maliotu, Red Appellant, Searcher 9.0.
If latest racing were the only guide the issue would appear to be between Tavern Song, Little Ruse and Bright Idea. However, Midland Tutor, Valspear, Vaalso andi Benighted also have chances and two newcomers to the hurdle ranks, Beeswing and The Trimmer, possess speed enough to trouble the higher weights if they jump at all well. Support may be accorded ■ Little Ruse Bright Idea-Beeswing bracket The Trimmer SYLVIA PARK HANDICAP, of £300. Six furlongs. First Division: Estro 9.11; Odtaa 9.2; Hunto, Beau Leon 9.0; Classic 8.10; Fawkes 8.4; Sieglinde 8.2; Veyana, Korotangi, Lady Pay, Casual, Gay Rosette, Kraal, Kerona Mimax, Sir General, Little Willonyx, Foxola, Flying Jay,; Tea Blossom, Natal, King Louis 8.0. Favourites may be - . . ..-'Zr*: Kraal Classic Hunto Second Division: Selwyn 9.8; Monte Cristo 9.1; Belle Fcmme 9.0; Sir Lysander 8.10; Rex Maitland 8.8; Expellant 8.6; Glenconnel 8.4; White Mark, Hot Shot, Princess Val, Romani, Boompsadaisy, Golden Bonnet, Empire Rose, Gold Race, British Mint, Bournemouth, Rara Avis, Stratford, Phil Vaals, Moneyspinner 8.0. The leading division may include Princess Val Monte Cristo Booms-a-Daisy JELLICOE HANDICAP of £400. One mille. Flood Tide 9.0: Royevrus 8.12; Brazen Bold, Young Paddon, Val Lu 8.4; Our Jean, Erlick 8.2; Orate, Valamito, Valmint, Erndale, Te Kawiti 8.0; Mintlaw 7.11; Flying Acre 7.10; Black Musk 7.8; Hunt fcr's Night, Knight of Australia 7.1; Prival, Kilcash, Silver Glow, Surella, Kelly, Day Wind, Requiem 7.0 Flood Tide is reported to be in good) order but it is doubtful whether he is yet in condition to go a solid mile with some of his younger rivals, including one or two late j winners. Royevrus may need a run but Brazen Bold has had fairly re- j cent racing and relishes the going ! when on the soft side. Young Pad- j don, with a first and third at Rotorua, will not lack support and he appears to have good prospects. Val Lu won convincingly at Matamata and should be hard to beat with a repetition of that form. Our Jean may need a race but is speedy when fit and Erlick, despite a solid! Avinter campaign, should run prominently. Orate is very unreliable at the barrier and investors take a risk in supporting the Oration gelding. Should he behave, and get away with the field, the others may find him hard! to head, Valamito, recently operated on for respiratory trouble, may need a race but Valmint, winner of this event in 1937 and again last year, promises well. Horses for courses and horses for races, and,, as proved by this gelding's performances in the Cornwall Handicap, that punters' adage applies to the chestnut son of Vaals. The best of those lower down seem to be Erndale, Te Kawiti and Flying Acre. Investors may prefer Val Lu Valmint Young Paddon PAKURANGA HUNT CUP of £575 and Cup value £25. About 3 miles. Mahal a 11.2; Allegretto 11.1: Lovelilt 10.9; Golden England, Biform 10.4; Floodlight, Gar Vaals j 10.1; lvinkle 9.11; Tutor, Pyrenees! 9.9; British Sovereign 9.4; Dark Rose, Clansman, Silver Wattle 9.0. Mahala may find it hard against those with recent form, which number includes Allegretto, Lovelilt and Golden England. Though Allegretto Avon at Matamata his racing condition is doubtful and LoA r elilt and Goldlen England make far more appeal. The latter, especially, seems very likely after his dashing display at Rotorua and Avith the benefit of a good rider he makes a logical first choice. Others likely
to be supported include Floodlight (who didln't have the best of luck at? Rotorua), Gar Vaals, Tutor and British Sovereign. First fancies may be Golden England Lovelilt Floodlight AUCKLAND HANDICAP of £200. One mile. Tellsom 9.8; Joan Peel 8.13; Hunt ing Bee, Little Ruse 8.12; Bronze Emerald, Miss Valeric 8.8; Lord Waitangi, Venture, Rival 8.5; Face Value, Milanion 8.1;-Valley Maid, Ringshot, Hackenschmidt, Acre's Beauty, Acute, Bronze Fire, Bicte-a-Wee, Miss Bridge, Royal Huntress, Gay Bell, Boy Lu, Lapidarian, Hinehou 8.0. This is a case of "Shut your eyes and use a fork." The prongs may possibly hit Lord Waitangi Hunting Bee Rival LADIES' BRACELET HANDICAP of £200. Gentlemen riders. One mile and a quarter. Gaine's Choice 12.9; Calsliot 11.12; Beverley 11.5; Bellaghy, Digger Jim King Lume, Leigliton, Buzzard, Red Appellant, Seaman, Rey Lu 10.7. A trio likely to be supi)orted Beverley Calshot Gaine''s Choice ADMIRALTY HANDICAP of £300, Six furlongs. Mazir 9.12; Aero King 9.11; Proud Fox 9.9; Lou Rosa 9.5; Orate 9.3; Our Jean 9.1; Sebrof., Gamos 8.13; Tooley Street, Valimecn, Grandora, Sir Cameron, Maxam 8.9; Llandaff 8.6; Brazilian 8.3; Queen City 8.2; Sir Lysander, Inver, Surella, Royal Message, Clinch, Happicoat, The Cardinal, Prival, Tybalt 8.0. Leaving out the two top weights, and that appears to be safe, Ave come to Proud Fox, who has not raced for some time and would be better suited by a longer distance, Lou Rcsa, next on the list, has a solid poundage for one so young and it is possible that this gelding will not see the starting post. Orate's failing is discussed elsewhere and Our Jean would not appeal, if started here in preference to the longer journey. Sebrof may be dangerous, but Gamos and Tooley Street will have to be alloutt o win. Valinieen is sure to enter calculations, 'while Grandora, Sir Cameron and Maxara are three with'very bright prospects. Llandaff, responsible for some smart times in training gallops should be able to safely hold the .others, although his task will be hard if the field is not considerably reduced!. Brazilian and Queen City are a likely pair but the favourites maj r turnout to be Llandaff Valimeen Sir Cameron
