THE "GOOD ENDEAVOUR" LEAGUE FOR YOUNG READERS ONLY

I if for the Goodwill Cruise

" whaler 3 of WHALE .ISLAND

Wh:it ho, what ho, ma hearties. Here we slancl in the heart of the city of Mexico with the beautiful lakes shining and gleaming in the sunlight. Mexico is the most historic spot in the central American States and to-day as we look out over the modern buildings, roadways and parks it is hard to believe that this great city was at one time the capital of the Incas, the kings of the ancient Aztec race which; populated all the Mexican isthmus and enjoyed a very high standard of civilisation. They had wonderful temples and later on in the day I will take you to see the ruins of the greatest. It was known as the Teocalis and stood near the centre of the town to the worship of the Sun God. In those days the Aztecs, though they were gentle and loving in all other respects practised one of the crudest religions the world has ever known. Still Ave won't talk of that just now. it all belongs to the bad . old past, and Mexico to-day is a bright prosperous town with happy lighthearted people. They are pie descendants of the early Spanish colonists and the native Aztecs and Tlascalans. They are industrious and love dancing and singing. Lots of our most popular songs originated in Old Mexico, and Americans love visiting the country because of its lovely scenery, beautiful churches and jr.onastries, and stately old Spanish villas. We will, while we are here go for a boat trip on the lakes. There are beautiful floating gardens and green avenues of overhanging cane and bamboos. We will stay here for a day or two and then back to the US A. and on to Canada. Yours /till next week P.T.W.
