ZONE COMMITTEE MEETS RAFFLE PRIZES CONFIRMED The Zone 'G r Whakatane Gountj and Borough Inter-Zone Patriots Committee met on Friday in tht County Chambers, with Mr J. L. Burnett presiding. Among the matters dealt with by the Committee was that concerning individual representation of the Galatea, Ruatahunas and. Whaiti districts, which at present have only one deffegate. It was agreed that with such a: scattered area, it would be preferable to have it divided and it was decided to invite tihe Ruatahuna and Te Whaiti districts to be represented on the Committee. . , The Department 'of Internal Affairs gave approval for the proposed raffle, announced some, time ago, and enclosed the necessary license to conduct the raffle iiv the Whakatane Covmty and Borough areas. The prizes, which resulted from Mr E. Runnerstrmu/s generous,dona tion of £100,' were .arranged:,: Ist, Refrigerator; 2nd, Gulbranson, 8valve All-Wave Console Radio; 3rd, a cheque for £10. The raffle, is to close qn, November 23rd and is to be drawn at Whakatane on November 29th.' The proceeds will be paid into the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Fund. Mr Runnerstrum, who was present, thanked' the committee for the welcome extended to him. He said that he was now too old to fight and because of that he found it a pleasure help in another way. Referring to the chairmaft'W invitation for ; suggestion's,. Mr Runnerstrum said hie had one thought, which was shared by many sections of the community, and that was that the community should subscribe for aircraft, as. other colonies had done. He added that the question of sterling funds might pi-esent some difficulty but he knew that there were people • who, like himself, would be wd-lling to accept New Zealand money in exchange. Speaking of the raffle, Mr Runnerstrum said he had been in business long enough to know .that'sa return of £500; (th<? nett amount anticipated) for £10.0 invested, was a good proposition.
