Waste Material. The Whakatane County and Borough Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee on Friday decided to undertake the reclamation of waste materials when the scheme was finalised, uetails of the scheme will be. forwarded by the Provincial Council in due course. List of Volunteers. On the suggestion of Mr F. W. K. Raymond,, the Whakatane County and Borough Patriotic Committee, at its meeting on Friday, decided to request from the military authorities the names, numbers, ranks and regiments of all volunteers from this area who volunteered for service overseas. Legal Advice for Soldiers. When the subject of free legal advice for soldiers was raised at the meeting of the Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee on Friday, Mr B. S. Barry said that the Auckland District Law Society had a roster of members who were on call continuously at all campsi, to give this service to the men. Speaking for the local practitioners he said he was sure they would be willing to give free advice to district members of the forces* An Excuse, at Least. Apropos the reference in Friday's BEACON 1 to the fact that the children of the Paroa School had planted, four thousand onions, it was revealed at the Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee's meeting on Friday that the children of the Matata School had also planted that number. Pupils of the Whakatane School (Primary and Secondary) have not been idle and a request was made to the committee, through Mr B. S. Barry, for assistance in the harvesting thereof. It was resolved to cooperate Avith the school. Would the Government Agree? When Mr B. S. Barry informed the Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee of an offer of an inlaid table for I raffling purposes another delegate said that the offer had also been made to the Society of which she was a member. The offer was conditional, however, being subject to a grant to the Labour Party's paper, "Standard." Referring to the fact that donations must be straight out, the Government ordering that no conditions should attach. Mr E. Runnerstrum observed: "The Government might agree to that!" (Laughter).
