BENZINE THIEVES
Restrictions on benzine,, have led to the rise of an unprincipled type of individual who has been classed as a ' fifth columnist" and. a,s an unmitigated traitor to the community. He is the "benzine thief" who through lack of honesty or inability to take his share of the slight burden of inconvenience inflicted by the war, must sneak into his neighbour's garage, and pilfer someone elses share of the monthly ration In Whakatane recently, cases have been reported, which show that this, type of sneak-theft is growling into a practice, which if not stopped now,, will become a menace.. It is hard enough at present rate of allocation for the average man to make his meagre coupons carry him through the month, but when he is deprived of that supply the result is crippling to a .degree which often has serious consequences. All right minded persons are asked to co-operate in bringing the culpints to book and; making an example of them which will serve as a deterrent to others who may be tempted to act likewise.
