A PRODI GOUS AGE MAORI WAR - VETERAN" A veteran of the Maori War, now living in Victoria, recently celebrated Ills 10(5 th birthday. He is Mr Edward Bennett, of Briagolong, who was born in 183-1 in Tamlragee, County Armagh, Ireland. He arrived in Australia by the sailing ship London in the voyage occupying four months. After arrival at Melbourne, v.'hi eh he described as then a ''scattered village," Mr Bennett became horsebuver for Campbell and Sons, of Kirk's Bazaar. In 1801 he joined the gold rush to Gabriel's Gully, New Zealand, and then volunteered for the Maori War. In 1880 Mr Bennett bought a hotel at Sale. He sold out after foivr years and settled on the land at Briagolong.
