KUTARERE WHARF

COUNCILS CONFER OFFERS FROM COMPANIES A report on the meeting of the Opotiki and Whakatane CountyCouncils and the Northern Shipping Company's representative, Mr W. T. Burrett, which was held recently at Kutarere, was submitted at the Opotiki County Council meeting The chairman, Mr W. A. Gault, stated that tlife Northern Company was not prepared to lease the wharf for a longer period than a year at £2°. It had been suggested that the Borough Council be asked to contribute towards the wharf and failing that the wharf be dismantled. Subsequent to that date, Hall and Company, Ltd. wrote offering to pay 1/- per ton on manure, stating that 318 tons were booked for September, and further similar a:mouhts at later , dates. Mr Merry said that the company could save money by landing manure at Kutarere. Cr Black said that the Northern Company could be offered the use of the wharf at £20 per year. It was decided to'accept the offer df Hall and Company, Ltd. providing they work in with the Northern Company in the use of the * wharf. There would be no caretaker, and no responsibility on the council.
