RAGING NOTES
The Winter Cup. One of the ruling favourites at present lor the Winter Cup. is the Masterton trained White Rajali. Military Camp. The Wanganui racecourse is soon to be used as a military training camp, but it is anticipated the Wanganui Racing Club will be able to hold its spring fixture as usual. Riding and Boxing. It is understood in Auckland boxing circles that arrangements are being made for a contest at the Auckland Town Hall in which Vise Dye will meet C. Mcintosh. Streamline Well. The Great Northern ,Hurdles victor Streamline, is executing really good work on the tracks at Riccarton, and by August 13tli is expected to be a very fit horse indeed. For Riccarton. The Romney representative, Dauber. trained at Takanini by A. Tinker, has been making good over crosscountry this winter, and evidently his connections are of the opinion that he can go "one better" as lie is to be shipped south this week to fulfil engagements at the National meet ing. Getting Ready. Mr D. Potter's Llandaff, who showed distinct promise in the early winter at Ellerslie is getting through a preparation in view of tlie Pakaranga Hunt Club meeting to be staged at Ellerslie in August. Ready fc?r Spring. Trainer Cuth Morse, of Takanini, has the Vaals mare Valimeen in splendid order for her next engagements. In the 1940-41 season she should materially increase her winning total, as she should race more solidlj'. Quadroon's Return. Two months ago the Nigger Minstrel representative, Quadroon, was confidently expected to win important events at the Wellington Winter meeting, but on the eve of this fixture he sustained what was said to be a break down. But he has exceptional recuperative qualities, for h? has returned to the Awapuni tracks and is executing very good work. The Beau Pere Stock. There are still several members of the Beau Pere stock in New Zealand, which as three and four year olds in the season are expected to loom large in the settlement of important events. The Wanganui own--2d colt, Sir Beau, is getting through a very solid preparation in view of the Wanganui Guineas, for which he is already a'firm favourite. Patriotic Funds. The Avondale Racing Club has decided to donate its race meeting profits lo Patriotic Funds. Any agitation for closing down on race meetings during the period' of the war will not be based on strong grounds when the facts are taken into consideration that many clubs pay large sums by way of taxation into the New Zealand Treasury, while several big racing institutions are now donating their profitsi to war .funds, thus relieving taxation under this heading. King Musk for Waipa. Mr R. M. Taylor, of Thames Valley, has sold King Musk by Muske* toon —Queen Arch, to Mr W. M. Thompson, .of Te Awamutu, who for the past three seasons has successfully raced the Luaidus. The Musketoon gelding is in future to contest cross-country events in which department by virtue of his pace and jumping capability he should make good. He is to be schooled over the big jumps by the wellknown rider, Kowhai. Staged a Comeback. Allegretto, winner of the Corbet! Steeplechase at. Matamata by over 20 lengths, casing up, had not Avon a race for over three years. He has been troubled with intermittent j lameness, but showed no evidence of it at Matamata. where his very fine performance went to show that some >f this season's winning jumpers ivcre indeed fortunate in not having to meet the Day Comet! gelding in :he early con'ests of the winter./
