TO COMBAT HYDATIDS
DOG REGISTRATION LEVY CAMPAIGN IN NEW ZEALAND "The extra charge of one shilling for dog registration is infinitesimal when it is realised that the shilling is to help stamp out hydatid disease in New Zealand,'" said the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, when the charge by a local authority of lis for the registration of a cocker spaniel was brought to his notice. The Government and local governing authorities, were, he said, united in a campaign to deal ,with hydatids, which for some years had shown an alarming increase in New Zealand. Medical opinion held that dogs carried the disease, which spread with remarkable rapidity to human beings, "The soundness of the campaign," the Minister added, "is illustrated in the decision to delay for a few months this year the registration of dogs until the arrival from abroad of fresh supplies of the hydatids remedy to be handed over with the registered dog collars, The printed instructions given with the remedy are valuable information to the public." ,
