SOME GOOD FOOTBALL WITNESSED A BEAT B BY ELEVEN POINTS In a high scoring game at the Whakatane Doxxxain on Saturday, the A team, Avitli superior backs and forAvards, particularly in the forAvards and through this the backs had almost continxxaus possession of the ball, pi*evailed by 21 to 10 in a match avliit'll delighted a fair attendance. Play thi-oughoixt Avas fast and of a good standard, some splendid individual and concerted efforts being Avitnessed and the general impression gathered Avas that Whakatane t will be able to field a team capable of taking the Shield from Rangitaiki next Saturday. For the Avinners Old, Thompson. Biddle, Boj r ntoix and Morpeth were prominent in the backs, Avhile Moore, Iv. Merito and Cleland shone in the forAvards. The B team forAvards played Avell in the loose, although beaten in the scrums and linecuts. The backs on the Avhole Avere outclassed, being compelled to defend for thp most part and seeing little of the ball from the scrums. Mr F. Wcderell Avas referee and he amde a point of explaining his rulings as each infringement occurred. This Avas appreciated by the players and should do much to improve the game here. Tries for the Avinners Avere notched py Old (2). Thompson, Riddle ! and Moore, Wells two ; and Thompson one, Robson and Jackson scored for the i B's, Oswald converting both. l
