I cancellation of the man's license would entail hardship," said Mr W. ! R. P. Moody when David James Spence, farmer of Galatea, appea!r-< ed before Messrs O. H. Coleman -and J. J. Dillon, Justices of the Peace, in the Rotorua Court on Mori day morning charged with being drunk in charge of a car at midnight oil Saturday. Spence pleaded guilt}', and Sergeant O. Tocher stated that accused had been arrested by Constable J. Richardson on Sat* urday night after a dance. He had obviously been under the influence
of liquor, and had been involved in a slight collision. _ The Bench, while cancellation of the license might: entail hardship, said that the offence was of a serious nature, and impos-i ed conviction with a fine of £10, the license to be cancelled until May 31, 1941.
BAIL ESTREATED CHARGES OF DRUNKENNESS WEEK-END CASES Two labourers," P*.obert -Malcolm Bailey, aged 31, and John James O*Keefe; alias Patrick James O'Keefe, alias. Magloyne, aged 41, a native of Tasmania, failed to appear before Ml- G. A. Brabant J.P. in' - the Police Court on Monday morning when called to answer charges of being found drunk in a public place. The former Avas arrested in the Strand on Saturday night and the .latter at AwaJceri on Sunday morning. Bail, which in Bailey's, case was £2 and in the other, 10s, was ordered. to be estreated.
