FINE THORNTON EFFORT SUM OF £40 RAISED On Tuesday last a most successful , iftcrnoon was held in the Thornton lall in aid of the Patriotic Fund, vliich will benefit to the extent of ipprox.imately £16. The ladies committee organised a Jring and Buy Stall. This was in he capable hands of Mrs H.< F. McDonald and Mrs Cruse, with Mrs W. assisting, while Mrs V. Carter vas in charge of the vegetable stall, drs Reynolds antl Mrs Spence ware n charge of the afternoon tea ar-« angements. The people of the district ilonat>d most generously of their goods, •esulting in a fine display. Turkeys, md poultry were .offered for sale, vlr T. Craddock proving an excelent auctioneer. In this he was ably issisted by Mr Reynolds and Mr C. lyland. Mr Hanright started a copier trail to Berlin which resulted n £2 His 8d being handed in to tjhe. 'unds. The various competitions were won by Mrs Baillic, Miss Joyce Wilson, Mrs Robbins. Mrs W. Law, Mrs Palmes and Mrs T. Craddock. Ou July 20th the Thornton Ladies Patriotic Committee organised a house to house canvas for the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild. The number and size of parcels collected showed clearly the willingness of all to.assist in this worthy cause.
