BASKETBALL and FOOTBALL
On Thursday last basketball and football teams from Whakatane, Katikati, Te Puke and Tauranga assembled at the Tauranga Domain to take part in an all->day tournament. The basketball teams, which were divided into two grades, played some fast and, exciting matches, the game between Te Puke and Whakatane A teams resulting in a win Cor Te Puke after an extension of time had been grafted. Owing to the late arrival of tltfe Katikati players, it was impossible to complete the football matches. Although Katikati and Whakatane failed to score against Te Puke the games were more even than the results' indicate. The most interesting match of the day was that between Te Puke and Tauranga. As this ended without either side having scored, it was decided to play a short game later in the afternoon, when, encouraged by the cheers and advice of the onlookers, Ta uran 6 a succeeded in scoring a try. The results are as follows:— Basketball. Tauranga A v Katikati A, 14-4. Tauranga B v Katikatfi B, 7-2. ' Tauranga A v Te Puke A, 9.10,. Tauranga B v Te Puke B, 5-7. Whakatane A v Katikati A, 11-5. Whakatane B v Katikati B, 20-2. Whakatane A v Te Puke A, 10-11. Whakatane B v Te Puke B, 13-5. Tauranga A v Whakatane A, 10-18 Tauranga B ,v Wliakatane B, 6-18. Te Puke A v Katikati A, 9-3. Te Puke B v Katikati B, 12-4. Football. Tanranga v Whakatane, 8-3. Tauranga v Te Puke, 3*o. Whakatane v Katikati. 13-3. Te Puke v Whakatane, 31-0. Te Puke v Katikati, 34-0.
