MEETING OF WHAKATANE BRANCH' REMIT TO DOMINION COUNCIL The Red Cross Committee met i,'n the Borough Council Chambers at 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday when Mrs W. Sullivan presided over Mrs Ramson Senr., Mrs Bathe, Mrs Pyne, Mrs Saunders, Mrs Grayling, Mrs Buddie Mrs D. Wilson, Mrs Tippett, Mrs W. Bridger, Mrs Norman, Mrs K. Armstrong, Mrs A. Q. King, Mrs Woldike, Mrs Burgess, Mrs Loane, Mrs . Woolliams, Mrs Shaw, Mrs Standrin, Mrs Sh'apley, Mrs Todman, Mrs McKcnzie, Mrs Pearse, Miss F. Ramson., Miss A. Ramson. Apologies foi absence were received from Mrs Caul ton, Mrs Timbs Mrs Caisley, Mrs Hayter, Mrs Cairns and Miss Tippett. It was decided that the Home Nursing Glasses would resume in August as soon as arrangements could be made for instructors. The following remit was sent to the annual general meeting of the Dominion Council: "Tltat the subcentres and country districts receive definite instructions as to what sewing is required.' I '' Centre in Whakatane. The committee decided to take steps to form a ctentre in Whakatane, the Opotiki, Taneatua, Awakeri, Edgecumbe, Matata, Matata Maori, and Te T'eko sub-centres to be invited to send representatives. -It was decided that the Ladies* Committee would, at the farewell function, present a gift parcel to each soldier leaving the district. The committee would like to remind any person or organisation, wishing to arrange a benefit function for the Red Cross., that t'hiey should advise the President, Mrs W. Sullivan, or the Secretary, Mrs D. E. Pearse, of the date of their effort to save overlapping. Reports Received. Mrs L. - Buddie;, convenor of the Knitting Committee, reported that i the following articles had been sent i forward and that more knitted goods were ready: 60 scarves, 30 pairs mittens, 56 32, pairs socks. Mrs Ramson, convenor of the Sewing Committee, reported that the case of good's had been received at , Headquarters and that 11 pairs, pyjamas, and a quantity of binders, many-tailed bandages, handkerchiefs, bed capes, face cloths and roller bandages had since been ' made. The convenor of the Comforts Committee, Mrs S. S. Shapley, re--1 ported . that 30 regulation parcels, the Whakatane quota, had been sent forward—2s of these parcels • were packed by the ladli.es of the " committee and 5 were supplied by the Women's Institute. The committee wish to thank those who donated buttons and gifts ; for the parcels, and all the ladies, i including those of the Maori committees, who are assisting with the knitting and sewing.
