LOUD REPORT
EARLY MORNING PHENOMENA, Many residents of Whakatane state that at approximately 5 a.m,. yesterday morning tihey heard a particularly loud report, which though of a rolling nature indicating distance was sufficiently interesting to ca.use considerable speculation. One well-known business man states that he distinctly heard several lesser reports, whicli followed the major one at intervals. All who heard the report arc agreed upon the time, and consider that it originated some distance away jjrobably in an easterly direction. Thoughts immediately turned to White Island which however appeared from the mainland to be much quieter than on Wednesday morning when the sharp earthquake tremor occurred.
