RUGBY FOOTBALL

BAY OF PLENTY UNION < MEETING ON SATURDAY The" Bay of Plenty Rugby Union met at Matata on Saturday prior to the Rangitaiki-Tauranga match and r continued the meeting after the r game. Tflie purpose of the initial 1 stages was to consider the matter s of residential qualifications post sessed by a player who had turned 1 out for Rangitaiki in Shield mat- ( ches. 1 The secretary read a letter from the Taurariga Union querying the qualifications of the player concerned. The Tauranga delegate said his ' U.nion understood that the player resided in Taneatua, -and in that | case should play for the Whakatane Union. j Mr F. J. Burt, Rangitaiki presi- ] dent, said that his Union had not ] enquired into the residential quali- - fications, and in fact, he had not 1 met the, player until a short time j ago,. , Pie understood, however, from j subsequent conversations, that he ( had been refused a game with Wha- j katane. There was some discussion on the , interpretation of the Union's rule .which-states'that Public Works Department employees between ,the Poroporo and Paroa Clubs boundaries and Thornton were at liberty to play for any Union, providing that they continued to play for that Union. It was pointed out, however, that the rule was made at tlie time when there was a large body of Public Works men in that locality and that the player exercising the attention of the executive was a railway employee and therefore not covered by the rule. Rule 13, requiring fourteen days as a residential qualification for Union representatives, was quoted but further discussion was prevented by Mr Burt, who announced that the Rangitaiki. Union had no intention of fielding the player concerned. Fixtures Arranged. Arrangements were made for the transportation of the Bay of Plenty fifteen to Gisborne for the Poverty Bay game next Saturday. It was decided to travel on Friday afternoon. Mr Guiness was appointed manager of the team with Mr F. J„. Burt as co-manager. Charges for tlie "VVailcato fixture scheduled for Tauranga on July 27th were fixed at 1/6, 1/-, (M and 1/- for cars, Messrs Guiness and Henderson being given authority to look after the catering arrangements for tlie Waikato team. Permission was given the Rangitaiki Union to play Soxith Auckland on August 10. • Other fixtures' arranged included a representative game against Thames Valley to be played at Paeroa on August 17, and a Hurunui Shield match, Bangitaiki versus Te Puke, at Matata on July 20.
