SELLING BY "MOVIES"
NOVEL PLAN FOR BRITISH EXPORTS Colour films of the goods thCy are offering for sale may soon be part of the equipment of British commercial travellers during their sates manship tours throughout the world. The British Film Institute has put forward the scheme to Sir Cecil Weir, head of the Export Council established by the.B° art l of Trade to increase Britain's wartime exports, The majority of the export groups into which British industries have been divided for the purpose of the* export drive have been approached, and most of them have expressed their keenness. "The films would be in miniature , size and made in colour/' said a re- ( presentative of the Institute. "A traveller can put several reels into a suitcase, and can hire a jector for a small sum in almost! any town. He can'then show the films in his customers own office, j and by supplying a running commentary can give the customer a j better Idea of the product arid its qualities than any amount of talk j would do." These "samples in celluloid" provide, in a few minutes, a visuail appeal which coiild not possibly be achieved by s "stills" in illustrated catalogues. Films would cost £200 or less, according to length and quality. An additional advantage would be that the customer could see *the product in various stages of manufacture, and British workpeo- ! pie at work on the home front. ! J
