OBITUARY
t mr e. McCartney The death occurred last week of one of Whakatane*s oldest identities, Mr Ernest McCartney. - Bora in Wanganui in 186'5, Mr McCartney was a well known athlete in his youth and figured prominently in sporting activities. He was an uncle of the famous C. G. McCartney, Australian Test cricketer. Coming to -Whakatane over thirty years ago, Mr McCartney was for n long time associated with Messrs Canning and C 0.,; in the bakery business. , - Of a, retiring disposition, Mr McCartney took no part in public affairs in this town. - His Wife died I many years age and he is survived by one son. - j / - '' '■ 1
