POROPORO 5 " The teams though somewhat non iescript in the variety of jerseys worn, gave nevertheless a fair dis- . play of rugby. Poroporo, obviously reinforced since last Saturday hel'd the heavier black team with comparative ease during the first half. An easy penalty kick taken bjf Dodd went anywhere. Ponderous forward movements saw Ihe blacks make headway but Dodd who was given further opportunities could not get into his stride. K. Merito led the blues and a nice passing rush looked promising until a knock-on arrested the drive. Hotene at full let his team down by slipping with the ball but retrieved his mana by bringing down Wells who had no one in front of him. Old set sail for the line and with August in support made good country. Poroporo now initiated a nice movement when M. Merito sent f o Rangikotua, into M. Merito again, to. P. Merito to Wilson who gained the overlap and crossed the line for the first try. P. Merito kicked a beautiful goal. Poroporo o, Paroa 0. Almost immediately afterwards a penalty at half way gave Dodd his third chance, with which he made no error. Poroporo 5, Paroa 3. Half-time airived soon after. Poroporo made good headway in the new half but a further long distance penalty kick by Dodd put -Paroa in the lead. Paroa 6, Poroporo - Back in Paroa's half the blue backs commenced flinging the ball' round in good style. A brace of penalty kicks taken by P. Merito fail'ed to improve Poroporo's score, Paroa were in hard defence till Dodd came through, ball at toe. The Blue forwards however were tireless and quickly retrieved the position. Scrum after scrum went down in Paroa's quarter, till Wells found the line at halfway. Sykes marked but the Blues still retained the advantage.. In a good position, P. Merito missed an easy goal and in the counter attack Moore opened for Tangira to score beneath the bar. Dodd converted and the game ended with the score Paroa 11, Poro poro 5. Mr F.
