COPPER TRAIL

, RED CROSS EFFORT PLANS FOR WEEK-END At a special meeting of the Whakatane Red Gross committee last Friday evening it was unanimously decided to inaugurate upon novel lines a copper trail contest between the ladies and the men of the town. The event will be held during the week-end 19th and 20th of July and will be run each side of the Strand by the respective groups. The ladies committee, who claim that they will have no difficulty in cleaning'vup the men is as under; Mrs D. Pearse, Mrs I>. Wilson, Mrs Norman, Mrs K. Armstrong, Mrs A. Hayter s Mrs J. Bullard and Miss S. Tippett. The stalwarts who will endeavour to hold up the masculine prestige will be Messrs B. ~Henderson, L. Littlejohn, R. Ferry, G. W. Good. G. Walker and two others who will be appointed later. The usual; Red. Gross dance will be held on Saturday evening and the losers in the Copper Trail contest will be put in chains and led round the hall that evening, to. the jeers of the onlookers. It is pleasing to note that the Boy Scouts have thrown in their lot with the men.
