INSTITUTE MEETING

, There was a good attendance of : members at the Waimana-Nukuhou ■ Women's Institute meeting held I last Friday afternoon in the Wai- • mana Hall. Mrs N. Clark presided. Owing to urgent business from head 1 quarters, the July meeting was ad-. ■ vanced'one week. The meeting was ; opened with the reading of the As- ' pirations, which was followed by i the singing of the Institute song. The minutes were read and con--1 firmed, and the usual routine busi- : ness was transacted, ft was decided to forward a donation to the RadioAppeal for funds for the Sick ajul Wounded. A donajtion of £5 has been received from Mr R. Morton, Waimana, and it was decided to utilise it for soldiers' parcels. The Institute is most grateful for the donation . Mrs Jerram gave an interesting lecture on Spinning, and using natural dyes for the wool. The roll call "Winter Evening Occupation" was well responded to. Musical groups was much enjoyed during the meeting. The hostesses served a dainty tea, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the judges, Mrs W. McConnell Jnr. and Mrs Tong. The day's competitions were as follows:—Best Flower: Miss Woolfield (Camelia) 1 4 Mrs Black (Jonquil) 2, Mrs F. Bell (Japonica) 3. Best Vegetable: Mrs Hewitt (Silver Beet) 1, Mrs Wylde (Parsnip) 2, Mrs Black (Carrot) 3. Jar of Marmalade: Mrs T. Wardlaw t, Miss Woolfield 2, Mrs Wylde 3. Bag Apron: Mrs King 1, Miss Woolfield 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. A bring and buy stall held for patriotic funds brought in over £3 % and a large case of left over clothing for the Lady Galway appeal, Avas sorted and packed for refugees. , The president thanked all for thot parcels etc. brought along.
