WHAKATANE GOLF CLUB
OPEN PATRIOTIC DAY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION The Whakatane Golf Club held an Open Day at the Aveek-end in aid of Patriotic Funds. There Avas a record attendance of 120, including many visitors, Opotiki in particular contributing more than 20. Excellent games Avere enjoyed and trophies Avere generously donated for both men's and ladies' events by two club members. The trophy winners were: — Ladies, Morning Medal: Miss Upton (Opotiki). Afternoon Bogey: Mrs Bullard. Men, Morning Medal: A. C. Cradwick. Afternoon Stableford Bogey: W. Henderson Jr.' Runnerup: G. Fox (Opotiki). Entrance fees and donations realised £18 9s 3d. Lunch and afternoon tea, provided entirely by lady members, produced £6 14s 6d and a further valuable addition to the funds Avas gained bj r the sporting act of Mr CradAvick who donated his trophy for auction, which, by an equally sporting response in a series of sales realised £3 5s Od, making a grand total for the day of £28 9s 3d. The Presidents of the Whakatane and Opotiki Clubs, Messrs Luxton and G. S. Morris,, spoke in congratulatory terms on the day's result and in thanks to the ladies for their valuable effort and to all members and visitors for their response, all of Avhich contributed to the suc : cessful result of the function. DRAW FOR SATURDAY Play in the first round of the Fortune and Founders' Cups resulted as 1'olloAvs:— Fortune Cup: Hunter beat Barry, Rangi beat Mussett; Spence beat Hill; Hyland beat Dawson; Littlejohn beat Herrold; L. B. Smith beat Norris; Wright beat Morpeth. Founders' Cup: Suckling beat Allan; Moore beat Winstone; Powdrell beat Armstrong; SaA'age beat NeAVman; Carter beat Standrin: Berg beat MolJgaard; Bridger beat Smith. DraAv for the second round is as under:—• Fortune Cup: Hunter plays Rangi; Spence plays Morpeth or Horrocks; Hyland plays Littlejohn; L. B. t Smith plays Wright. Founders' Cup: Campbell plays' Suckling; Moore plays PoAvdrell: Savage plays Carter; Berg plays Bridger.
