NAVAL HEROES

Trafalgar Square, when the Nel-> son Column has been flanked by memorials to Lord Realty and Lord Jellicoe, will become a general mem . orial to British naval heroes. Each of the new memorials, which will probably take their places in the Square some time in August, takes the form of a fountain with three bronze groups, all designed for a general scheme devised by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The popular groups were designed by Mr William McMillan, R.A., and Mr Charles A.R.A. Mr McMillan's design of the Beatty fountain includes a statue of Lord Beatty with two groups of figures, one male, the other female, and dolphins and other maritime creatures. Mr Wheeler has done a figure of Lord Jellicoe with an accompanying group of maritime .figures in which tritons arid other sea fantasies are i-epresented - This group was buried in Regent's Fark at the beginning of the wan The Office of Works has just given permission for it to be dug up again so that it can be exhibited at th« Royal Academy; The groups measure eight feet long by six feet high, and each will have five jets from which water will spout forty feet into the air.
