Raffle Result. The £5 worth of groceries, donated by Self Help Stores as a raffle to aid the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund, was Avon by Miss Maureen Moycs. of Matata, with ticket number 1,0(56. The proceeds from the raffle, amounted to £3:5 3s.
League of Mothers. The Whakatane League of Mothers will hol'd a Bring and Buy stall in the Presbyterian Hall on Friday, June 28th, not Saturday, June 29th as was previously advised in this column. The organisers would appreciate the utmost assistance lor this event and donations will be gratefully received. Red Cross Funds Assisted. By means of a dance held recently by the Rangitaiki Lodge. M.U.1.0.0.F., in the new Edgecumbe Hall, the sum of £2 6s Id was raised for the Red Cross funds. This demonstrates the efforts being made by Lodges and other social organisations to assist patriotic movements. Stock Judging Competition. Representative teams of three members of Young Farmers' Clubs from Western Bay of Plenty, Eastern Bay of Plenty, and Rotorua districts, competed in the Jersey dairy cow judging competition for Wright Stephenson and Co. Silver Challenge Cup, at the A. and P. Show grounds on Friday 21st inst at Rotorua. Won last year by the Western Bay of Plenty„ the cup was won on this occasion by the eastern district. In addition to the Eastern Bay of Plenty team placing the three cows in the same order as the judge, Mr Kissen, the descriptive remarks and reasons given for the respective placements were very good.
Red Cross Hobby Club. Good work is still being carried on by the Red Cross Hobby Club and articles of all descriptions continue to be manufactured from waste materials and sold to the public. Any person having articles already made or articles which require painting or any other service are asked to hand them to Mr A. C, King, who will see that the requirements are attended to and passed on to the Red Cross Shop. Native Department's Assistance. It was stated by Mr G. R. Taylor, Department of Agriculture, when speaking at the meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty District Council of Primary Production, that the Native Department had been instructed to grow as much maize as possible. The Department had about six hundred acres available for this purpose and the Supervisor did not anticipate any difficulty on the score of production. > i The Selling Price. During the discussion by the Maize Committee, formed at the Pri mary Production Council's meeting on Monday, one member enquired whether the price for maize i'n the coming season was likely to vary from that obtained last year. He pointed out that farmers who were requested to undertake the increased production of maize would naturally Avant some idea of Avhat they would get for it.
