RIBBENTROP GOES WRONG) Mr William Teeling, the author, adds a story to the list of Herr von Ribbentrop's many gaffes in London, says a writer in the London Evening Standard. Ribbentrop decided to give a reception at his Embassy. The invitations should have been sent out in English, as the language of the country, or in French, which is the diplomatic language. Ribbentrop, however, ordered that they should go out in German. There were immediate reprisals. IMr Winston Churchill deliberately misunderstood his invitation and thanked the Ambassador for a "kind invitation to dinner at 8 p.m" And the Japanese sent a fourpage answer in their own language, which baffled the Germans so completely that they could not tell Whether it was an acceptance or »efusal.
