FARM LABOUR
SUBSIDY SCHEME In view of the national import' aneo of having a sufficient supply of farm labour available for the coming season and that production may be maintained and increased where possible, the following subsidy has been offered to farmers px'eparcd to employ inexperienced labour. A survey of Government Departments cmploj'ing unskilled men is now in hand and it is expected that a large number of men will voluntarily offer their services in the national interest if farmers are prepared to employ them under these conditions (numbers of men have already volunteered). Ft is desirable that farmers wishing to take advantage of this scheme make application immediately so that some measure of training will be completed prior to the flush of the dairy season. Applications may be made at any office of the Social Security Department or direct to the Bay of Plenty Placement Officer,, P.O. Box 162, Rotorua. Pay and Subsidj r . The rates of pay and subsidy are fully set out as under:— Dairy Farm. (Applies only to workers on farms on which not less than ten coavs are kept, and from Avhich milk or cream is sold or otherwise disposed of in the course of business) . Age of worker, 20 years. Weekly rate of pay £2 6s. Plus food and accommodation or an alloAA'ance of £1 per week on lieu thereof. Weekly subsidy. First 6 months £1 10s. second six months 15s.* 21 years and over £2 12s 6d. ♦Plus a house allowance of 12/6 per week in respect of married' workers where married accommodation is not available and they arr. ! therefore separated from their families. Sheen Farm. Age of worker, 20 years. Weekly rate of pay £1 19s 6d. Plus food and accommodation or an allowance of 17/6 per Avcek in lieu thereof. Weekly subsidy. First 6 months £1 10s, second six months 15s,* 21 years and OA r er £2 i>s. -Plus a house aloAvancc of 12/6 per week in respect of married workers Avliere married accommodation is not aA'ailable and they are therefore separated from their families. The full amount of Avages and house alloAvance where applicable Ls paid in the first instance by the Farmer who will claim monthly rcembursement of the amount of subsidy plus house alloAvance Avhere applicable. Appeal to all Persons. In v'"w of the national importance of increased production the Placement Officer appeals to all persons Avhether experienced or otherwise Avho are willing to offer their services as farm employees to come -forward as soon as possible. Their ser\*ices used in this Avay avi 11 be of extreme national value and they Avill be certainly doing their bit in our Avar effort.
