BLACK-OUT OF SYDNEY IN ONE SECOND
Plans for the total black-out of Sydney and area with a 50-mile xadius of the G.P.O. have been com pleted by the national emergency services. One man operating a master switch could do the job in less than one second. A single movement of a single switch is all that is necessary. Tests carried out recently while Sydney slept proved satisfactory. The national emergency services organisation also has completed plans for shallow trenches in the city's open spaces, such as parl<s ; where people can go to avoid shell splinters and mini mis- concussion jf bomb blasts should en emergency arise. Throughout the State 80,000 people now have been trained in emergency courses, while in the metrono!) tan area 20,000 men and wo-» =nen have been trained and allo-cated-to positions. Plans also have been completed •'■>?• the evacuation of the civil popn ation of Sydney.
