At the Borough Council's Works Committee meeting the Clerk reported that he had interviewed the local Main Highways overseer respecting the removal of the traffic dome at the intersection of King Street and Domain Road. Authority was given to have a centre line marked in this place and it was recommended by the Departmental Overseer that the entire length of the Whakatane-Paroa Highway should be marked with a centre line. It was resolved that this work be put in hand and the Mayor informed the Council on Monday night that it would not involve the Council, the whole cost being met by the Main Highways Board. The Sixteenth Player. Some amusement was caused at the Domain on Saturday by the interest taken in the principal match by a fox terrier. Evidently 'Spot had the idea that the side-line barracking had not reached a sufficient volume and he added his staccato voice. Having thus encouraged the spectators, young tailless decided to give a closer urging to theT players. It seemed as though he was boiin and had spent many of his days in this town because he showed no hesitation in solecting the blue jerseys as more worthy of his support. Perhaps it was the colour. At any rate, he enjoyed himself, following up in approved style and dancing about behind the set scrums, barking his opinion. He was disappointed if he expected to see thi? ball heeled through the local pack,, for during the time that, Whalcataine had his assistance, .Qpotiki had the ball.
