RACING NOTES

THE AUCKLAND MEETING THE CONCLUDING DAY Wednesday's racing opened with the Tamaki Steeulechase, three miles. Most in favour were Te Ronga, Floodlight and British Sovereign. The Illumination —Miss Kil larney gelding, Floodlight, registered the best performance and won comfortably from Clansman and British Sovereign. The winner is raced by Mr J. H. Greenhead, c-f Rotorua, who for years had successes with Erination. In a field of 13 that went out for the Orakei Hurdles, Hessketoon was installed first favourite. As on Monday he led practically all the way. and Avon by three lengths from Te Hai and Bright Idea. The winners jumping was a treat to witness. A fine lield of 18 paraded for the York Handicap, the favourite division comprising Clinch, Erlick, Rov al Message and Paddy the Rip. Erlick piloted by Y. Dye, soon hit the front and ridden a well judged race, he won by three lengths from Gold Vaals (who came a long way back) and Flying Acre! Hot Box was fourth and Namara fifth. Vaimint "and Clinch ran disappointngly, while Jack Tar, Calorie a,nd Bronze Moth did not handle the going at all well. The honours of th. 1 race were with Gold Vaals, who conceded the winner 211bs in weight As .generally expected the Winter Steeples went to All Irish, Bells of Bow and Dauber filling the places The recent second, of All Irish, three wins and one second in three weeks, speaks well for the real consistenc3 r of the Illumination steeplechaser. The victory of Jewelled Girdle in the Campbell Hurdles, was verv popular. Aussie Ra, from New Plymouth, showed improved form by running second, and General Ruse I did well in third place., On his Ellerslie form King Rey is on the down grade, while Knight of Australia has by no means a robust appearance. The Visitors' Handicap resulted in a dead licat between Aco Kino' and Bronwen, with the well backed Erndale in third place. The Fitzroy Handicap went to Silver Glow, Bronze Emerald and British Talent being second and hird respectively.
