NO MUTINY
INSIDE REBELLION CAUSE OF WHITE ENSIGN HOISTED UPSIDE DOWN "'A mutiny!" The words flew around yesterday when the white ensign was hoisted upside down to the masthead of a schooner at anchor in Corio Bay. An experienced seaman read the signal, which announced lit international flag code tha.t the crew of the craft had mutinied. The story of the mutiny was reightened by the coincidence of the appearance of a destroyer in the I bay. A party of volunteers rowed posthaste to the schooner. The elderly caretaker of the vessel hailed them frantically. "Did you bring me something to eat?" he called. He then told them that without a dinghy to reach the shore he had been marooned for ft week on the schooner without provisions. Hunger drove him to hoist the flag. Ife did not know it was upside down.
