RACING NOTES
A Heavy Burden. It is 43 years since the Great Northern Hurdles Avas won by a horse carrying 12st or over. This year Clarion Call was awarded 12.0 but he is not to break the sequence his owner preferring that he should be at Wanganui to win the Steeplechase there the third year in succession. A Spell for The Dozer. The Dozer, a member of Hector Gray's stable at Takanini, had the misfortune to strike himself last week, and was therefore unable to compete at the Waikato fivture. It is now stated it is more than likely that he will not be a conv petitor at the Great Northern meeting. The Ngaruawahia Meeting. The Ngaruawahia Racing Club will stage its next meeting on June Bth at Te Rapa, by courtesy of the Waikato Racing Club. Being a nontotalisator meeting the prize money is naturally a modest total, but nevertheless the racing contests will be keenly fought out bj r big fields. The Yellow Jacket, Black Cap. When Vascones won the Hunters' Flat at the Poverty Bay meeting it was the first time for a decade that the once famous yellow jacket, black cap had been carried to victory for the Stead family. The last occasion a win was registered was when Pillow Fight scored for Mr W. G. Stead. Vascones ran in ihe interests of Messrs A. G. and W. R. Stead, of Hastings. A High Grade Pair. It is expected that patrons of the turf at Wanganui next Aveek may have the opportunity of witnessing a contest in Avlueh Clarion Call and Padishah will lake part. Doubtless preference may be shoAvn for the first named, Avho is in first class? Avinning form, Avhile the Avinner of the 1939 Grand Nationals is not likely to be at his best for some weeks.
