OTAKIRI PATRIOTIC FUNDS SALE OF POULTRY As mentioned in a local on Wed--nesday one contribution for the Sick and Wounded Fund has been raised in a novel manner. At Otakiri, under the auspices of the collecting section of the local Patriotic Committee, residents were invited to contribute poultry for sale, old hens being quite acceptable. As a result of this poultry drive, Mr W. S. Woods, who promoted it,, has handed in £17. Mr Woods himself collected the fowls with the help of Bey Scouts, and sold the motley assortment for £16 19s 6d Disappointment was felt that some residents could not see their way to help. However, others responded splendidly, and Mr Woods used his knowledge of poultry marketing to advantage. SUCCESSFUL DANCE FOR SOLDIERS PARCELS The Waimana Hall was well filled with dancers last Thursday evening, when a sub-committee of the Women's Institute held a dance to raise funds for soldiers' parcels for overseas. The dance music was contributed by Mrs M. King, and extras were played by Miss J. McConnell and Miss M. Wardlaw. Mr H. Wardlaw most capably apted as M.G. and Mr Morton was doorkeeper. The streamer and confetti dances were much enjoyed and the Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Miss Amy R\iff and partner. A box of chocolates was won by Mrs Gallagher, and a combination chair and ladder, donated by Mr Syd Green, for competition, was won by Mrs T. W. Wardlaw. A dainty supper was servjed by the Institute members and enjoyed by all. The dance was announced a great success, as the total takings were £16, and the expenditure was quite small. Dancing continued until 1 I a.m. when the National Anthem was played. Among those present were: Mesdames Woolfield, Eagle, T. W. Ward law, H. Bell, Henderson, J. Wardlaw, Grover, A. K.
