WOMEN'S INSTITUTE EDGECUMBE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Kdgecurabe Women's Institute was, held on Tuesday in the hall. Mrs. Learning presided and Mrs Fowell acted as secretary. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship. The President reported on a meeting of the Executive she had attended in Whakatane, and explained a competition in conncction with Hay ward Rose Bowl. Mrs Peppercll was elected to lake charge of this competition. A silver coin collection was taken for the purpose of sending parcels to overseas soldiers through the Patriotic Committee. Arrangements were made to hold tt dance in July to raise funds for delegates' expenses to the Dominion Conference. Mrs Le Lievre then gave a most interesting and helpful demonstration of glove making and took orders for skins for members to make gloves on a future Institute day. The roll call ''My Pet Superstition" caused much laughter. Afternoon ten was served by Miss J. Le Lievre, Miss J. Pepperell and Miss Goldsmith. The meeting closed with the National Anthem. WAIOTAHI MEETING The monthly meeting of the Waiotahi Women's Institute was held in the Waiotahi Hall on Wednesday May 8. Mrs L. V. Looney presided. The Aspirations were read by Mrs Jessop headquarters notes were read by the president. Regret was expressed at Mrs Kelso's resignation and it was resolved to send a letter of appreciation to her. The Wainui Garden Circle's report was read by Mrs Cunningham and showed a pleasant year's activities. Mrs G. Lovell was welcomed as a new member and Institute spoons were presented to David Watson and Baby Reid, with good wishes of members. As it was Members' Day, the chair was then tslcen by Mrs Leishman. "Musical Creeps'* to music supplied by Mrs Johnson, was much enjoyed. "A Stepping Stake" race for the committee was won by Mrs R. Rooney, and "Life. Consequences" proved very amusing. A blindfold "Feed your Partner" game was high ly entertaining and was won by Mesdames Wagner and R. Looney. A most interesting demonstration of patchwork was given by Mrs R. Brown ,a decorative quilt being shown. The competitions resulted as follows: — Bowl of leaves and berries: Mrs G. Watson 1, Mrs L. Looney 2. Wholemeal sponge from given recipe: Mrs P. Looney 1, Mrs'G. Watson 2. Best vegetable: Mrs Snell (peas), 1, Mrs L. Looney (silver beet) 2. Best bloom: Mrs Snell 1„ Mrs P. Looney (carnation) 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Jessop, R. Rau and W. White, and a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Leishman for an enjoyable afternoon. WOODLAND S MEETING The monthly meeting of the Woodlands Women's Institute was held, on' Tuesday, 21st inst., with a very good attendance of members presided over by Mrs Noble. The meeting opened with the National Anthem and Institute song, followed by the Creed. There was an unusual amount of business to be dealt with which shortened the social part a good deal. Remits for the Dominion Federation meeting were read and the delegate instructed how to vote. Mrs Barbour was placed in chai-ge of the 2/- talent competition arranged by the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation. It was agreed that all work done for Patriotic and Red Cross work should be done as an Institute effort. The roll call was "Uses for Stale Bread." A general knowledge test called for a very keen brain. The winners of the competitions were:— ■ Balaclava: Mrs Maxwell 1.
