_ CANVASS OF TOWN £322 RAISED The fine response made by the residents and business firms of Whakatane to the canvass by the Men's Patriotic Committee on behalf of the Sick and Wounded Fund resulted in the raising of £322. The objective was £312. The Chairman, Mr W. Sullivan, -stated at the meeting of the committee on Monday night that it was a splendid effort. He mentioned the lead given by the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade and said that it was the -offer of the Brigade's services which had piven impetus to the •decision to canvass for the required amount. "It is gratifying to know that the objective £312, was exceeded," said Mr Sullivan, "and I would like to express my thanks to the donors, the public generally and to the canvassers. The amount raised will be paid to the Red Cross Society account for transference to - the National Fund." Area Donations. Armstrong and Barry (Strand-Rock to Monument) £30 -Is <6d. Messrs Jarrett and Montgomery '(Goulstone Road) £G Is 6d.
