LATE JOHN McCALLION

The late Mr John McCallion,. whose death occurred at Waioeka recently, was 85 years of age. He was born on 20tli April, 1885, at Glynn Lome, County Antrim, Ireland. He left Ireland on 15th May, 1880 4 and came cut on the sailing ship "Langstone," of 746 tons. The tjrip took 94 days from London to Auckland. On arrival in Auckland he saw an advertisement in the paper that the Rev. John Gow and son at Opotiki, required a ploughman. He applied for the job and got it, since wiien he iived continuously in Opotiki except for a period of about five years when he resided in Cambridge. Mrs McCallion died 29 years ago. Deceased is survived by two sons and two daughters, these being Messrs A. J. and H. K. McCallion. and Mrs S. Shapley of Whakatane, and Mrs Colin McKenzie, of Awakeri.
