IMPORTANT STAFF CHANGES BRUTISH AND FRENCH H.Q.'s RE-ORGANISED The most important of the latest war news is the announcement of the reorganisation of the French and British Staffs. General Gamelin has retired fifteen Generals from their commands, and these include Army Com* manders, Corps Commanders and! officers in charge of Divisions. In England, General Sir Walter Kirke has retired and General Sir Edmund Ironside has taken his place as Officer Commanding Home Defence. General Sir John Dill, is the new Chief of the General Staff. m m • m There is no appreciable change in the position in Belgium and Northern France. The Belgian forces are resisting strong German attacks and are meeting with local successes. A communique |rom British Headquarters states that there has been no serious attack on the British Front although it is known that the enemy is engaging Belgian forces on the British left flank. 9 * • • There has been heavy artillery activity on the Somme and the Aisne and several German attacks in the former area were turned to Allied advantage. The R.A.F. continues to ha,rass German troop concentrations and mechanised units and is conducting operations on a large scale. •*. « m ■ 335,000 more men were conscripted for military service in England on Saturday.. Two millions are under arms.
