APPEAL FOR CAMP STATIONARY DISCUSSION AT PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE MEETING At the meeting of the Zone G Whakatane County and Borough In-ter-Zone Patriotic Committee, His Worship tlie Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, read a personal letter he had received from Captain Webb, infantry company commander at Papakura camp. This letter stated that that there was a shortage of stationary for the orderly rooms and there w r as a need for pencils, ink, typewriting paper, clips, scribbling blocks, ledgers, etc. and as the majority of the men were Haurakis, Avas a request for assistance. It was also stated that the officers have, had to buy anything required out of their own pockcts. The letter concluded with j the observation that the wonderful response of the men from this d-is-. trict had caused widespread comment. Mr Barry said that the matter of providing office stationary should be the concern of the Government. He did not see w r hy officers should have to 'dip into their own pockets' for requisites. His inclination, he said, was to purchase the necessary articles and send the account to the imprest account of the G Zone. Mr Smith: It would be more appropriate to send the account to the Minister of Defence. Mr Luxton: Send a duplicate/ and you might get paid twice. It was decided to purchase stationary to the value of £5 pending advice of future requirements.
