200 DESCENDANTS

MAOkl COUPLE'S RECORD FAMILY OF SEVENTEEN With the death of Mrs Merito, which occurred last week, it is interesting to note that she reared a family of seventeen, and at the time of her death could count no less than 124 children and grandchildren and over two hundred descendants. Mr Merito who survives his wife is recognised as one of the oldest living Maori identities in the district. In spite of the heavy burden of rearing such a large family both he and his wife have succeeded in living to a ripe old age.
