CONCERT STAGED

NOVEL PRESENTATION ON SATURDAY NIGHT PROCEEDS TO RED CROSS appeal The presentation in the King Street Hall on Saturday night by the Hawaiian Concert Troupe Avas both novel and entertaining. Because of other functions and the inclement weather the concert was not as well attended as it might have been but those present were treated to first-class entertainment and enjoyed a programme presented with artistry. Instruments, except for ukeleles, were not included and the programme was composed of action and motion songs and hulas, being a mixture of Maori and Hawaiian songs and dances. Mr Taute Edwards was in charge. The concert troupe is composed mainly of young people, many of them recently at school. So Enthusiastic are they about this method of raising funds for waf; Appeals that they have made all the costumes required and provide their i own transport. All efforts are entirely voluntary and the standard of the troupe is excellent. The concert on Saturday night was the second presented by the party, the first being staged at JTe Teko. They are billed to appear at I Edgecumbe to-morrow niglit and appearances at Matata and Tancatua will follow. So far £17 has been raised for the Red Cross appeal.
