COMMITTEE FORMED
TC CONTROL PATRIOTIC APPEALS COUNTY AND BOROUGH COMBINE Representatives of the County districts, the Borough, Harbour Board, Federation of Women's Institutes and Returned Soldiers* Association yesterday attended the first meeting of the Zone G Whakatane County and Borough Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee. This committee has been formy ed to control all appeals for patriotic purposes and must not be confused with the separate com mittee already existing in the Borough for the supervision of the present appeal for the sick, Avounded And distressed fund. Mr J. L. Burnett Avas elected chairman and appointments to the corrfxnittee Avere: Matata, Mrs H. D.Manawahe, Mr R. MacPherson; Thornton, Mr S. Spence; Ota j kiri, Mr W. J. Murray; Te Teko, Mrs H. Sparkes; Edgecumbe, Mrs G. Irving; AAvakeri, Mrs L. Luxton; Opouriao and Taneatua, Mrs E. H.. Hill; Ruatoki, Mr Tui Tawera; Wai~ nui, Mrs C. H. White; Waiman.aj Mrs Charlie Wylde; Federation of Institutes (B. of P.), Mrs Woolfield; Returned Soldiers' Association, President (Mr Raymond); Whakatane Borough and Ohope, His Worship the Mayor, Mr D. V. Saunders, ToAvn Clerk, Mr W. Sullivan and Mrs W. Sullivan; Whakatane Harbour Board Mr J. W. Sumner. It was also moved that Galatea, Te Whaiti, Murupara., and Ruatahuna be represented by one member ■and that it be suggested that subcommittees be set up in the areas of Galatea, Te Whaiti, Murupara and Ttuatahuna and that committee be giA-en power to ackl to its members. The honorary secretary and treasurer is Mr C. G. Lucas. ExecutiA'e Committee. It Avas decided to form an execu-> 'tive committee comprising the 'Chairman, His Worship the Mayor • and the three Borough representatives, four Countj' representatives, the President of the Returned Soldiers' Association and the Honorary Secretary. The Borough representatiAres are those on the general committee and those elected for the County are Mrs Woolfield, Mrs Luxton, Mr W. Murray and Mr S.« ;Spence.
Native Sub-Committees. It was resolved that where Native patriotic sub-committees are not in existence, such committees will be set up as sub-committees to existing district patriotic committees in the following districts: Matata, Te Teko, -Awakeri (Poroporo and Paroa) and Waimana. on Provincial Council It was necessary to select a repre- 1 sentative of the County and Borough Inter-Zone committee on the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council and Mr F. W. K. Raymond nom Inated Mr J. L. Burnett, wlio, he •said, had a thorough knowledge and was competent. Mr W. Sullivan seconded the nomination. In replying Mr Burnett expressed thanks for the confidence reposed in him and said that at all times he -would do his best. Rehabilitation. /Another resolution carried was that rehabilitation committees be set up. The first would comprise n Whakatane County committee and 'the second would be formed for the •Borough, the President of the turned Soldiers' Association to be a member of both. It was resolved that the committees be authorised to co-opt the assistance k any committee member aware of. special cases and that they deal cases of distress! :among soldiers' dependents. Collection of Funds. Making clear the point that all -money collected for patriotic pur j poses must be paid to the committee, a resolution was passed appointing the personnel of the committee authorised collectors and all funds must be paid to these collectors ,on behalf of the committee. Permits for holding functions in aid of patriotic funds can be obtained from members of the committee and the personnel, together with the districts they represent, are given above. After the appeal which is being conducted at present in aid 1 of the sick, wounded and distressed fund, all appeals will comejfthrough the Auckland Pro ; vincial Patriotic Council to the) Zone Committee for control in j"this area. !
