AUCKLAND NATIONALISTS The appointment of Mr G. M. Smith as chairman of the Auckland" division of the New Zealand National Party was iinanimously decided!" upon at a representative meeting of" the division. Because of continued tilT-healtli following a serious motor cr.r dent the previous chairman, Mr George Mills, recently resigned. The' position was temporarily filled byMr H. Clinton Savage, who presided at the meeting. Mr Smith is a son of the lateRev. J. Gibson Smith, formerly of Wellington. He is managing-direc-tor of John Burns and Company,. Limited. Before coming to Auckland some years ago he was man+ ager of the company in Ghristchurch? He has a reputation as an organiser,, and has always been keenly interested in social and humanitarian; activities.
