RUGBY FOOTBALL
SATURDAY'S COMPETITION GAMES TWO TEAMS DEFAULT KEEN SENIOR ENCOUNTERS A better standard of football was apparent in the games played under the Whakatane Rugby Union last Saturday, though unfortunately the day's programme was marred by two defaults by junior teams. The transport problem appears to be largely responsible for this and it is hoped that in future careful arrangements will be made for the country teams which have to travel to other centres. In Whakatane. Paroa narrowly defeated a vastly improved Star team, the match providing the spectators with a keen little display of relative ly good football. Waimana was favoured with a senior and a junior game, a large crowd attending and witnessing a brace of excellent encounters.
