LOSS TO GERMANY

NORWEGIAN FLEET ON WAY HOME An adverse affect on the imports Into Germany of whale oil will re-i suit from the German invasion of Norway, says a London cable. In the past 10 years Germany ha,s 'been the largest importer of whale oil, which is used mainly in the manufacture of margarine and soap, two commodities of which she is notoriously short. The current issue of the "Economist" points out that Germany produced between 10 and 15 per cent -of the world output of whale oil, "but was no longer in a position to send out her factories, whereas the Norwegian fleet, which produced between a third and a half of the "world's whale oil in the past ten years, is now on its way back from the Antarctic, and will almost certainly make Britain its base, so long -as Norway is partly occupied by[ Germany. As Britain is the second largest whale oil producer—its share is nearly a third of the world's total —between two-thirds and three-quarters <of the world's supply will be under British control for the duration of the war. The Ministry of Shipping has announced that by Royal Norwegian all Norwegian ships of more than 500 tons gross had been placed ■at the disposal of the Norwegian ■Government. To give effect to the decree, a Norwegian shipping and trade mission bad been established in London. Let us quote for your next J»b Printing order. Quality, satisfaction. "Beacon."
