TE RAPA FIELDS

FIRST DAY ACCEPTANCES ELEVEN IN BIG STEEPLES Splendid acceptances have been received for the first day of the Waikato Racing Club's Winter Meeting, to be held at Te Rapa to-/ morrow and Monday. This fixture is regarded as an indication of Ellerslic chances and many of those engaged at the Great Northern meet-' ing are engaged. Owing to the size of the field for the Qtorohanga Hack Handicap the race will be run in two divisions, which will be treated as separate races on the totalisator„ FolloAving are the details, with a review: of the prospects in each race:—■ MELVILLE HACK AND HUNTERS' STEEPLECHASE Of £250; 2 1 / 4 miles Flashlight 10.13; Dauber 10.12; Mahal a 10.7; Bells of Bow 10.0; Celtic Lad 9.'8; Chikara 9.7; Gascyne 9.5; Centaurus 3.4; Air Commodore 9.3; Aintree 9.1; Tane Mahotu, Potoa Lad, Sockettes, Fat Boy, Master Appellant, Tologa, Holme Fell, Clans man 9.0. Daubef- makes more appeal than Flashlight but Maliala may hold both. Bells of Bow is likely and Celtic Lad should go a good race if produced in form. Chikara promises to make a bold showing and Centaurus will go well. The best of the others seems to be Air Commodore and Ain tree, with preference for the latter. Fancies may include Mahala Chikara Aintree OTOROHANGA HACK HANDICAP Sweetstake of £2 each, with £200 added. Six furs. First Division Minority 9.5; Hum-a-Song 8.13: Hunter's Night 8.8; Pasture 8.5; Hunter's Rose 8.1; Bronze Emerald 8.0; Flying Eagle 7.12; Te Haka 7.9; Miss Valerie 7.8; Monte Cristo, Loch Acre, Philemup, Glenbevan, Good March, Douglas Hyde, Prince Jay 7.7 Minority and Hum-a-Song have recent form and should be hard to beat. Hunter's Night has won on this course previously and may take beating. Everything has a chance here and final preference may be shown for Hum-a-Song Te Haka Loch Acre WAIKATO HURDLES Of £400; 1% miles * King Rey 11.11; Lombination 10.6; Streamline 10.6; Enjoyment, Aussie Aa 10.5; All Irish 10.3; Donegal General Ruse, Lapidarian 9.11; Jewelled Girdle 9.10; Kaiwaka 9.9; Pyrenees 9.5; Agog, Te Hai 9.4; Rua King 9.3; Cappy, Very GlacV Smilin' Thru, Count Roussillion, London, Almetic, Gay Poto 9.0. King Rey has a good record on the flat this season, his best performance being to win the Storey Memorial, 1 % miles, in February- Loombination should take beating. Enjoyment has three successive wins to his credit and comes in on a good scale. Aussia Ra will be remembered for one or two good displays last year. The next five in the list are likely, with preference for Kaiwaka. Agog, Te Hai, Cappy and Very Glad are all capable. Support may be accorded Streamline Enjoyment Loombination PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP Of £500; IV4 miles Royal Appellant 9.0; Sly Fox 8.13: Gold Vaals 8.12; Jack Tar 8.7; Namara 8.2; Hot Box 7.11; Foxsen, Bronze Moth 7.10; Pocket Venus, Tidewaiter 7.9: Kcna 7.5;- Dark Shadow, Day Wind, Silver Stick. Saccone, Sunny Downs, Susan 7.0. Form horses in this field are the three place-getters at Pukekohe. Foxsen,, Namara and Bronze Moth

and they should again be difficult to dispose of. Royal Appellant can be trusted to make a race of it and Gold Vaals will not be without a following. Sly Fox may need a race or two and Hot Box has not raced for a long time. Pocket Venus is a mare capable of going the distance with the best and it will occasion no surprise if she is showing up at the finish. The best of the others may be Tidewaiter, Kena and Saccone. Favourites may incluc 1 / Namara Foxsen Pocket Venus TE RAPA STEEPLECHASE Of £750; about 3 miles Clarion Call 12.5; All Irish 11.7; En Tour 10.11; Mio Lumc 10.4; Bi-i form 10.2; St Musk 10.0; Enjoyment 9.12; Sub Editor 9.5; Baldric, Little Briton 9.1; Tutor 9.0. Clarion Call is equal to the poundage and can be relied on to run an honest race. All Irish is likely and so is En Tour. Mio Lume pulled up tender when last raced but should go well if started. Biforms. is a solid performer and St Musk can set a good pace. It is unlikely that Enjoyment will start in this event. Sub Editor will be remembered for his very convincing win at Cambridge last Labour Day and a repetition of that form would make him hard to beat. Baldric has the fin,est of chances and is sure to be in the money. Preference may be shown for Baldric En Tour Mio Lume STEWARDS' HANDICAP Of £350; 6 furs. Majority 9.7; Orate 9.1; Maori Song 8.2; Besiege 8.0; Orwere 7.11; Silver Quex 7-1.1; Erlick 7.9: Jayola 7.5; Olympus 7.4; Brazen Bold, Trilliarcli 7.1; Tc Takina, Hunting Blood, Noitaro, Little Artist, Penzance, Calorie, Paxeno 7..0. Majority will find her weight troublesome and Orate is too uncertain at the barrier to warrant solid support. A good prospect is Maori Song, who is working well. Besiege has won on this course and Orwere's turn is due. Silver Quex impressed by her win at Pukekohe and this chestnut mare will take a lot of beat ing. Elrlick and Jayola do not appeal but the second registered by Olympus denotes that a good effort will be forthcoming from him. Brazen Bold has every chance but Te Takina, Hunting Blood, Noitaro and Penzance appeal more. Investors may prefer Silver Quex Olympus Te Takina HOROTIU HACK HANDICAP Of £250; 1 mile Royal Message, Wiklore 9.4:, Tellsom 8.11; Forest Acre 8.9; Clinch, Hunto 8.7; Gaines Choice 8.5; Midland 8.3; Kaspian 8.2; Strathire 8.1: First Gold Money 8.0; Trig Station. Calshot 7.13; Hunting Bee 7.12: Spinning Wheel, Star Vaals 7.10; Nnipapa, Hessketoon 7.8; Racewhip. Joan Peel, Nyola, Helga, Rival, Bronze Trail, Lady Acushla, Kingcraft, Royal Fawkes 7.7, This is a big field and barrier draw may play a big part in the decision. Likely horses are Clinch Tellsom Kaspian OTOROHANGA HACK HANDICAP Second Division Town Section 9.1; Flying< Acre 8.12; Gold Wings 8.6; Acreman 8.1: Lord Ace 8.0; The Trimmer., Valerian 7.12; Esquire 7.9; Mayfair, Silver Glow, Runanga, Acquest, Rose Acre, Gas Acre, Rackle, Spats 7.7. Town Section will be prominent and the improving Gold Wings is a possibility. Acreman is in form and does well on this course. Lord Ace was responsible for good efforts in his dual win at Tauranga. The Trimmer will do Avell but a better prospect may be Valerian. Esquire will make things interesting and Mayfair, Silver Glow and Runanga are the best of the others. Favourites may be Esquire Valerian Town Section
